Ad hominem translates from Latin to “argument to the man”, or “argument against the man” and is any argument that attempts to counter anothers claims or conclusions by attacking the person, rather than addressing the argument itself.
Basically, it’s where you flame another user. Even if they talk in text-speak and don’t make any attempt to use correct grammar or spelling, their point may still be valid. So next time you see someone post something like this:
[Corrected post]
You can’t spell. You fail.
