I hate what Nexon has done to their own game. They’re ruining the game for most everyone. eMS was mostly unnecessary, and now real life friends can’t play the game I used to enjoy. Even worse, the game as got noticeably more laggy for me and other Europeans. Nexon Cash was a brilliant way to support a free game, but not when it affects the game in the way it does now.

I hate the player community that has this game has always had. I hate the elitist bullshit there is. I hate that if you gain just one meso of hacked money, or kill one vacced monster you’re instantly a hacker. You get abused by other players.

Those are mostly FallenStars and Hubris guild members’ mules. This abuse was for… obvious reasons.

I submitted a ticket to Nexon about that on the 24th of August 2007. It’s still “Waiting for _GM”. What a joke. What a fucking joke. Nexon will probably never reply to that ticket, nor will anything come to the people who will attack people over nothing. I wonder how long it would take if I got some NX via paypal then disputed the payment for them to ban me? A few days. Nexon only cares for their money.

First off, anyone who has their finger on the pulse at BasilMarket should know there is a bit of a fiasco around guides at the moment. So I wish to assure you, this is a rant not a guide. If this rant helps you in anyway, you do so at your on peril.

How to not fall for a scam.

I’m tired of people who fall for obvious scams and then complain. It’s really not hard to not be a victim.

Don’t be a moron.

A common scam - drop games. One of the simplest ways to not get scammed is to not put yourself in the position to get scammed. Anyone who plays the game should be aware that when you drop an item, it immediately becomes lootable by other plays. This fact alone should stop people from falling for it, but it doesn’t.

Be wary of other people.

I think the most common “scam” (I’d not call it a scam myself) is people “hacking” their friends. As [MapleTip] loves to remind us, we should never give our account details to anyone. Is someone really your friend? They may act all nice, but how can you really tell? Certainly by not giving them everything they need to steal all your items and money. There are people who I would trust my account to, but if one of them were to back stab me I’d accept all responsibility.

There is no such thing as a free lunch, so if someone wants to give you an item for free, if you let them wear your sword of +1 rareness? Just walk away. There is a new(ish) scam that involves a hijacked account being used to spam the FM shops with “I saw you in some video at ___Maple.com“. Really now? If you don’t remember ever being asked or told about making a video, or you’ve never heard of the site in question be very careful.

Don’t get greedy as it will be your downfall.

Most scams play on your greed. They tempt you with fame, mesos and NX to fool you into giving the scammer your money. Are you really selling a steely for 15m, if only the seller didn’t drop lagging and cancelling the trade? Sure you are. I’ve encountered this scam myself, and had great fun being as slow as I could. Eventually, the scammer realised he’d not get anything from me and left the FM with the lovely goodbye message “fck u noob”. 15 minutes later he was back and the fun began all over again.

Conclusion.

If you fall for a scam: You’re a moron - I hope it teachs you something. Mesos aren’t the end of the world, your bank account could be.

If you scam people: Fuck you.

I will not spam heal you. Do not ask me again. It’s a waste of my MP. I don’t care that you’re in a mob, I’m watching your HP bar and when it takes a hit I heal you. You die in 4~5 hits whereas 2 hits and I’m dead.

I will not stop everything I’m doing to recast Holy Symbol when you shout HS from the other side of the map. I will not cast HS while in a big mob. There is a delay after I cast it where I can’t heal myself.

I’m partying with you, a DK, because of one key factor - Hyper Body. Freakin’ cast it often. Not when you feel like it. Not when it runs out for you. Do it when I’m close and do it often. Why? Because without HB I will be killed in one hit. When you fail to cast it and it runs out for me, do not shout that I’m hiding from monsters or that I’m dead. It’s your fault.

Do not call me a cleric and do not rape my IGN to something else. Call me “Priest”, or “Marx”. If you know my real life name, call me that.

Split the drops with me. I’m saving you HP pots, luring monsters and giving you better EXP. I can’t loot drops since the party system is semi-broken and there is a timer against me. And most of the time, if I’m not healing I’m dead.

I’m not a bad person. Of course that is my subjective opinion, feel free to disagree. But I have plenty of friends who won’t agree with you. If anyone asks me if I’m funded by hacking, I’ll come clean and admit that it helped when I was starting out. My guild leader talked to me about my past and he was fine with it.

I don’t see much difference between the two. One hacked, one was funded by hacking. Both people are subjectively nice people. So, if you’re friends with Mazz it’s ok to hack. If you’re not then it’s not ok to be hacker funded. Brilliant.

I’m so glad I’m out of this game now.

I fail to understand it. Maybe because the average BM user is about 13?, maybe because they’re just trying to be ‘cool?’, maybe because they don’t know any better? Who knows. Still, it’s damn funny at times

Perfect example:

So here’s my problem. I just reinstalled my maple story, and I logged in, everything’s working fine.
Then, as soon as a monster hits me, or I hit the monster, I get disconnected from the game. It just closes.

Anyone might know what’s wrong?

Semi-normal problem. Probably a lag issue on the client, maybe a bad internet connection.

Don’t run msn in the background, it has been known to cause lag.

Known by who? Anything running in the background uses CPU cycles and therfore can cause lag. MSN is bloated yes, but won’t especially cause lag.

The lag is bad. Real bad. And since everything I train on will 2HKO me, even spamming the pot key at 30 times/ second (I use JoyToKey) I still die.

Normally, Svikings are pretty empty. With this x2, about 18/19 channels are full. For some, just KSing a channel from a 84 hermit is easier than finding one.
